The United States liberated itself from Britain and in turn became an evil empire. Now we celebrate by polluting the beaches with fireworks and glutinously wasting animal flesh. People purchase North American flags that were made in Korea, and display them to demonstrate how much they value freedom and democracy. Whilst they ignore the detriment of the patriot act and support corporate rule.
I saw a sidewalk pastel on the 4th that read, "while we celebrate our freedom, let's remember those who fight for theirs." Unfortunately we are not the only ones who are currently occupied militarily by our government.
I like to remember that the Chinese invented gun powder and used it not for fire arms, but for fireworks. They did this for decades? Centuries?
Tradition for it's own sake is curious to me. Yet, makes more sense than vapidly loading disposable plastic wares into gas-thirsty-civilian-tanks all in the name of independence.
