Independence day

The United States liberated itself from Britain and in turn became an evil empire. Now we celebrate by polluting the beaches with fireworks and glutinously wasting animal flesh. People purchase North American flags that were made in Korea, and display them to demonstrate how much they value freedom and democracy. Whilst they ignore the detriment of the patriot act and support corporate rule.

I saw a sidewalk pastel on the 4th that read, "while we celebrate our freedom, let's remember those who fight for theirs." Unfortunately we are not the only ones who are currently occupied militarily by our government.

I like to remember that the Chinese invented gun powder and used it not for fire arms, but for fireworks. They did this for decades? Centuries?

Tradition for it's own sake is curious to me. Yet, makes more sense than vapidly loading disposable plastic wares into gas-thirsty-civilian-tanks all in the name of independence.

I've always just seen Independance Day as a reason for America to get drunk and claim to be better than every other country. It's kind of like a frat party, only with slightly more homoerotic undertones ... because, you know, homosexuality is un-American. Fuck Bush. Let's all move to Canada, eh?

Carrie, anytime you write anything political, you will get flames. It's just part of blogging. My advice to you is to delete the above comment and don't look back.

Your words send vibrations throughout this wilderness of consumption and gloat. I'm glad to have stumbled."How many roads do we have to walk, before we can talk to the boss?"
Soon we'll wake from this dream, soon...
